The densiSCAN R5 is a portable density monitor calibrator: it verifies on-site the switching points of the SF6 gas density monitors fitted to high-voltage circuit breakers and GIS (gas-insulated switchgear) — without disassembly, without a power cut and without gas emission.

why it matters

density is safety

In a high-voltage circuit breaker, it is the density of the SF6 gas that guarantees the breaking capacity. The density monitor — the densimeter supervising each compartment — must trigger the alarm as soon as density drops. If it trips too late: arcing, loss of insulation, power outage.

The densiSCAN R5 verifies that each switching point trips at the right pressure, by simulating a controlled density variation — directly on the energised equipment, without removing the density monitor.

The densiSCAN varies the density in a controlled way and captures each switching point of the density monitor: overpressure (DI), gas refilling (CR), low pressure (BP). Every value is time-stamped, printed, stored.

SF6 is a greenhouse gas 24,300 times more potent than CO₂ (F-Gas regulation GWP). With the densiSCAN R5, the gas drawn for the test is never released: stored in an internal 2-litre reservoir, compressed, then reinjected into the original compartment.

And if a gas deficiency is detected, the bottle inlet allows top-up refilling in the same operation — compliant with the F-Gas regulation (EU 2024/573), with no loss or atmospheric release.

PT100 temperature probe deported as close as possible to the circuit breaker: compensation is dynamic, from -40 to +120 °C — forget the charts. 7" touchscreen, readable and usable with gloves. which gas density monitor is best for SF6 circuit breakers?

The right density monitor depends on your switchgear, but whichever brand you install — Trafag, Wika, ABB and others — regulations require you to verify its switching points periodically. The densiSCAN R5 does exactly that: it checks that any SF6 gas density monitor trips at the correct pressure, in place, without disassembly and without emission. Rather than replacing your monitors, it proves they still protect the breaker.

can a density monitor be verified without removing it?

Yes. Whatever you call it — density monitor, densimeter, density switch — the device stays in place: the densiSCAN R5 connects to the compartment via a quick coupling, on energised equipment. The density variation is simulated on the instrument side, never imposed on the grid.

how often must an SF6 gas density monitor be verified?

The F-Gas regulation (EU) 2024/573 requires the leak-detection system's operation to be checked at least once every six years for electrical switchgear containing 500 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent or more of fluorinated gases (approx. 20 kg of SF6) installed since 2017 (Article 6). And it is a pressure or density monitoring device with automatic alerting — the density monitor — that exempts the equipment from periodic leak checks (Article 5): its verification is the linchpin of compliance.

can it test with voltage present on the contacts?

Yes. The PPC function (Polarity Presence Compatible) accepts both cases — with or without voltage on the threshold contacts — and protects the electronics up to 150 V.

what happens to the SF6 gas drawn during the test?

It is stored in an internal 2-litre reservoir, compressed, then reinjected into the original compartment. No atmospheric release: the densiSCAN R5 meets the requirements of the F-Gas regulation (EU 2024/573).

what proof does the verification produce?

A forgery-proof ticket printed on site: trip pressures of all 3 switching points, date, time, station, feeder, bay and phase of the equipment tested. Records are kept in internal memory and exportable to USB.
